Setting iPod to mono?

Right, I had surgery on my right ear two and a half weeks ago and can't use heaphones for a wee bit and i can't put an ear bud on the right ear for a wee bit either so i can only use one ear bud to listen to music on the go.

Problem: it's stereo meaning im only hearing half the tracks and a lot of music sounds terrible this way, no backing vocals, base lines etc etc.

Is there any way to set an iPod to mono so I can hear the whole song through the left ear piece?

Not sure if you've posted elsewhere, but this is what you need.

Oh, you mean in the settings? No idea, sorry.

Thanks Gordon, but do they deliver to Ireland? would shops here sell that?

also, apprently there is an option to rip to your library in mono but that would mean re-ripping a hell of a lot of music and it's not really an option I want to use!

apparently I can rewire a pair of phones, gonna attempt it tomorrow.

Aye, a shop like Peats should stock that. Re-converting all the music is way too much overkill.

If you're into a bit of wiring and can't get that kind of jack you could buy this kind of thing and snip the cable in half and wire the wires to.. I dunno.. join both L R cables together or something. I'm not an electrician but I'm sure that's possible.

I remember when I had a walkman I could pull the headphones out slightly from the socket and it would cause the summation of both channels into both ears giving mono, can you do that with it?

That works but the jack isnt secure so you move slightly and you either lose all sound or it goes weird.

I'm going to wire the two cables together, in theory it will work perfectly, I have a cheap pair of JVC ear buds here im gonna test it on first. :) thanks for all the help Gordipants.
