    Good interview.

The bit I liked most was probably about whether they had it planned or not. I hate that question and the debate over it. The answer is a a bit of both to put it simply.

So they acknowledge they have been making it up as they went along which isn't a great shock.

What's laughable is the interviewer and the writers saying it would suck if they didn't make it up as they went along. Eh, that's not the problem boys. The problem is not then being able to resolve what you made up as you went along. That would also suck.

I knew that they were influenced by King's advice on writing:
CC: You know, Stephen King, who really helped catalyze our push to get an end date to the show was like, “I make it all up as I go along.” I just start writing my books and then they go where they go. But he's got, as Damon said, He's got a complete book when he gives you the book. He can say, “You know what? I made it up as I went along.” But now you have the whole Stand, you have the whole copy of Misery, or whatever it is.

But a key point to that which at least the interviewer notes:
    * Yes, and he has the ability to rewrite before it's done.

    CC: Yeah, he does.

Which is of major significance and which is why way more thought should have been given to the overall direction this was heading.

Hopefully we get a strong finale but if holes in the plot aren't resolved then they do deserve criticism for that and I say that as someone who regards the first two seasons as some of the best TV ever.

I think we all knew at this stage that some amount was made up as they went along, but it needed to be done. Looking back at Season 1, there is no way they could of planned it all out. But like they said, when they introduced a new mystery they made sure where they were going with it and an answer for it. Unfortunately this didn't work out for all the mysteries.
