Just wondering if anyone has applied for this and heard anything back? I applied back in early April, and haven't heard a peep - getting a bit worried now!
    Cheers!

Applied for the fun/purely out of curiousity to see if I'd get an interview this time round, knowing that I'd reject it if I got the internship. Got my pfo today via email!

Kind of funny - have 5 interviews in June/July for Magic Circle/International Law firms and a training contract offer already in London with a Silver Circle firm....... And 3 interviews in Dublin for other law related things!... seems what people say re McCanns and having a blatant preference for two universities in particular (one especially so), is true!

I'm assuming it's trinity grads, whats the other University?

UCD I'd imagine, I know of a lot of ppl in B and L getting internships there last year.

I hear they are real sticklers for very impressive academics, eg. 1.1 all the way through College and arn't as impressed by work experience etc as some of the other firmsa re.

I'm so píssed off, this is a joke trying to get an Internship. I sent them an email asking them what their criteria is just to see what they are actually looking for. I actually can't wait until I'm in college in England because I'm definitely going to stay there.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I've never had a 1:1 in my life, just a decent 2:1 and got a summer internship last year. I certainly wasn't the only one in there either who hadn't a first.

do you mind saying what university you went too ?

totally understandable if you don't wanna say but just curious given the thread

UCD, iirc most of the people there were Trinity grads, but of the 12 or so summer interns there were students from Queens, NUIG and Cork, and one bloke who didn't study law but was doing the conversion course thing. So yeah, I'd say of the 12 the majority would have gone to UCD/Trinity but that's not too surprising when you consider those are the courses that require the most CAO points and so might draw "better"(i know, i know, but you get what I mean I'm sure) candidates, and there were still plenty of other interns from elsewhere.

I think people sometimes forget just how many people are applying for these internships. They essentially have to select 12 or so people out of around 500, many of whom will have extremely impressive results/work experience. Having said that I think some of the other firms could take a leaf from Arthur Cox's book and attempt to provide some feedback. Even in rejection Arthur Cox is still a cut above the other firms.

Having worked in McCanns I don't think they favour any particular universities. Their solicitors/trainees/summer interns come from across the board with regard to colleges attended.

The problem with internships is they offer about 20 places and receive in excess of 600 applications each year!

For 2009/2010 McCanns had places for 15 trainees, 1 went to an internal candidate. For the 14 places left they received almost 800 applications!

Yeah i agree with you there, Been to several interviews with ACs, never got a position but still think v highly of them due to the way they were always very nice, even their rejection letters are v nice!

I think the thing with McCanns is that many ppl that get interviews with the other Big 5 don't get interviews with them - it seems if you get an interview with ACs, chances are you get interviews with MOP,A and L and WF also as has been my experience anyway. They obviously just have different criteria which they use to cut through the reams of applications.

Does anyone know if McCanns' internships are generally paid?

They generally are , not sure about this year. Would be shocked if they were unpaid though.

I'd presume they are paid, usually a couple hundred euro so you can get accomodation and wouldn't be out of pocket for taking the time off for two weeks.
