    hi,

    I was looking for to fix a wiper linkage for my hyundai accent. Went with a friend to garage near driving test centre in castle mungret in limerick(adrians ??), the man goes, "its too costly to buy new one. for walkswagon it is about 400 and for fiat punto is 160 euro. So i think for your car may be 200 to 250". The another mechanic standing beside him goes, "i can get you a second hand one from scrap yard may be about 70 to 100 euro and than labour may be 20- 30." I thought i woud take a chance with the hyundai dealer on ballysimon road, he charged me 75 euro for a brand new part.:mad: And got it fixed with a friend of mine for nothing. So just be careful when dealing with them.

    Better to ask few places.

    Fake discounts, typical.
    Always shop around anyway, no matter what.

    Which garage was it? The one across from Mungret GAA club or down by the cement factory?

    I'm not referring to anyone in particular - Just a very general comment re. the Industry.

    I read on here before that some Mechanics will often thoroughly clean old parts with an alcohol soaked rag so they look brand new - There's still some labour involved, just an awful lot less than actually removing and replacing parts :(

    - I treat them all with a degree of suspicion now.

    I also treat some lads in the tyre industry with a hint of suspicion, even though there are some honest lads

    Went down to see if the wheels on my car needed changing, was told by one lad that i needed the back two changing straight away. Another lad comes over and says I can get at least six months more out of them - I went with the latter :)

    Wheels need changing:confused::confused:

    If you meant tires then you should really be measuring the thread depth yourself, stick a 1 Euro coin into the thread. If the coin is higher then your thread you need to change, if it's lower you are still legal. Or you can buy a thread depth gauge in all motor factors.

    Depending on what type of car you have you may be better off changing the tyres before they become illegal as you will have much better grip.

    The 2nd person told you wanted to hear, he has no idea of your mileage or what road types you drive on. Your tires may only last a week.

    Never walk up to these Lads and offer them their commission/profit that easy - They'll find it very hard to keep their hands outta your wallet :D
