    Hi,

I was wondering if anone could offer me any advice?
I'm a 22-year old Occupational Therapist. I graduated last year and owing to the ****ty economy have only been working for about 5 months. I have always been interested in medicine- my mum is a doctor- and often thought about it in school and college but didnt have the guts or confidence to pursue it at that stage!! But now I'm out practicing and finding myself frustrated with this profession.

Is anyone in a similar position? what can I do? would i have to repeat the leaving, or do a h-pat?

    Thanks guys

    :)

Hi, this forum should answer all your questions :)

You have 2 options since you already have a degree. If you want to use your leaving cert points you can sit the hpat, but the next one is in February 2011 to start 1st year of undergraduate medicine in September 2011. Then you'd have to do 5 years of medicine (or 6 if you choose pre-med) in either UCD, Trinity, RCSI, UCC, or NUIG.

Otherwise, you could do post-grad medicine, a 4 year course thats in UCD, RCSI, UCC or UL but unfortunately not Galway! To get into a postgrad course you have to sit the GAMSAT...I don't know much about it but theres a thread about it in the health sciences education forum.

Hi all, i am a law graduate who is seriously considering a different route, a career in medicine has always been in the back of my mind, i am now after completing my law degree as well as my FE1 law entrance exams and with no job or apprecticeship i am having time to think about my future and i cant get medicine out of my head, i am am at the minute looking in to a postgrad in medicine, i dont no anyone who has done it and wud really appreciate any advice one has to offer. I did chemisrty and biology for the leaving cert and did very well in them, i liked science and wouldnt be at all put off by studying these again. anyway i am just seeking advice on how best to go about applying, from my reading it seems i have to sit the suitability tests, how difficult are these?? and wud people recommend the revision courses? also re fees, will i be able to apply for a grant? Il be 25 going in in september if i get the entrance exams. also if i were to graduate from it are gradmeds only looked at as second best to the undergrad medicine students??
