the Market Yard BC in Sligo. My 11th birthday present as a young fella from my father, who was an boxer in his youth, was to be allowed to go to the gym with my older brothers. When I was about 13 I realised I didnt like getting hit and my nose was becoming too much of a target! :D

Fair play, colly; are you a teenager or a "mature" boxer? So, how are the fights going?

I'm nearly 28. There was a white collar show in May 2008 and I decided to fight the sisters fella in it cause all my dad's side of the family boxed and it was something I always wanted to do. Really enjoyed the training and decided to stick with it after that.
I've had 7 fights so far (won 5) but only 1 of them went on my card, the rest were all just shows of different clubs. I really should be taking more fights but i'm not happy getting in unless I feel i'm in the best shape I can be

Colly10, do Lucan take new older members in their gym? I am 28 and would be interested in getting back into it to have a go at the Novice competitions and the like. Would be serious about the training and sparring as I have been running races for the last 5 years but never got the same buzz as I did when I was younger in the boxing. I live around the Blanchardstown area.

I used to box out of Patricks Boxing Club in Kilkenny. Manys the year ago now. Its now apartments or something.
Still remember the buzz (and a little fear) getting into the ring.
I've played many sports since then but nothing ever came close to that adrenaline rush. I won some, lost some but loved every minute of it.

The common theme seems to be that every one got the adrenaline rush from the sport like no other sport....That's cool, and true

The now defunct Matt Talbot Club on City Quay. Used to love it. For some reason I was fearless back then, now I wouldn't get into a ring, and im still young enough to glove up again. Much prefer to be on the outside looking in these days.
