Yes the chances of getting kidnapped are rather high.
We strongly advise against all travel to the Niger Delta at this time. Irish citizens should be aware that there is a high risk of serious crimes, including armed attacks, targeted against expatriates in the Niger Delta. In particular, the risk of abduction, whether politically or economically motivated, is very high. Militants have carried out attacks on oil and gas facilities in the Delta and may be planning further attacks. There have also been car bomb attacks on residential compounds in Port Harcourt. In 2009, the pattern of kidnapping has spread to the States adjacent to the Niger Delta. Armed robberies in these areas also more common now.

the Niger Delta is only one part of Nigeria. Read up on the situation, you might learn something.

Maybe you should call up the DFA and tell them that because Im only linking to their site. You suffer from a common boards.ie syndrome of selective reading

So to cure this in the interim I will quote just one section of my previous quote

you're only quoting the DFA website, why?

Nowhere in the Job advert does it say that the job is in the Niger Delta. That'd be like an American seeing a job in Ireland and saying "oh but i don't want to get blown up in Belfast".

Eh, no it's not. None of the paramilitary groups in the north targeted foreigners, whereas the kidnappers in Nigeria are specifically targeting foreigners, especially white foreigners.

doesnt matter, anywhere in nigeria would be about 1000% times worse than all the black spots in Dublin put together, especially for a nice sexy western guy

they're targetting white foreigners who work in the oil industry.

This is pathetic. Why can't you just admit you're wrong?

I just did a google news search for kidnapping in Nigeria and the first result from a couple of days ago is a bunch of construction workers (not oil related) who were kidnapped.

The average salary in Nigeria is about $6 a day. That means this job pays an average years salary in one week -- that sounds suspiciously like danger money to me.

since you didn't bother linking to the story, i'll assume you mean the four lebanese workers employed by STEMCO, who according to their own website "with its wealth of experience has built and is building projects throughout Nigeria. It works for both the public and private sectors on small as well as large projects particularly in the oil sector". Again, there's no mention that the FAS advertised job is in the Niger Delta region, so saying it's dangerous to go to Nigeria based on one particular region is a spurious argument, steeped in ignorance.

and to the poster who stated that Nigeria is worse than all the blackspots of Ireland put together, well perhaps this poor lad would disagree with you.

Let me put it this way:

Why do you think they are offering €1500 - €2000 per week, when the average weekly wage in Nigeria is about €25?

Stemco’s officials who were abducted include its general manager, site manager and two others. The expatriates were said to be working on the construction of a link-bridge before they were seized.
If you're white, you'll be kidnapped. If you're sailing along, and you're white, you'll be kidnapped. If the kidnappers think that you'll get them money, you'll be kidnapped.

Those kidnappers are going to feel so silly targeting foreigners when they find out about the thousands of deposed princes and government ministers with millions in their accounts that they need to get rid of.
