Does anyone know what's the latest deal for upgrading from Sky+ (with movies) to SkyHD (also with movies)?

And are there any new deals coming up?

    Thanks.

To upgrade to Sky+HD you can avail of a free Sky+HD box, the Installation will be €60 and your bill will increase by €15 per month.

If you self install - do you still get charged €60? ie. i already have dish, etc - i just want them to drop off the box and the card?

Whats the lead time at the moment for a new install?

You will still be charged the installation fee. Cards are sent out through the post if your a new customer, your existing card will be used if you are upgrading.

Approx time is usually between 7 - 10 working days. (Independent installers are generally quicker then Sky Directly as they sometimes pre-register your purchase)

I just upgraded from SKY+ to SKY HD with Multiroom. Free install as I got the multiroom and €30 extra on my monthly bill. Now I don't have to see the memory on my hard drive whittle away due to recording after recording of the Disney brat pack.:D

Thats pretty frustrating - seeing as theres nothing whatsoever to do...

Callout to drop off box, time to ring Sky and re-pair card to Sky HD box, also to ensure signal is ok...

Nothing to be done....thats in the eye of the beholder..but I do agree 60 euro is a bit much for upgrades that already have sky plus but thats sky 4 u

It should be couriered out - I can ring sky and have the card paired and I can make sure signal is 100%....

If they can post out the card for a standard definition package (they have done this for a mate of mine), then why can't they simply do that with the HD package....

<EDIT> just went through the online ordering process and it said standard setup = FREE?</EDIT>

So can I do the installation myself if I order it from Sky? I'd rather just connect it and set it up myself.

no. its not really an 'installation' fee at all in such a scenario is it  they have to be assured of that profit i guess.. more of a delivery fee when there's no work to be done. a hefty one

Correct me if I'm wrong as I moved from basic sky to HD but don't they have to add the second cable from the dish to the box? Or is that there already from sky+? could that be the installation fee?

Yeah - I put through the order online. They didn't charge for it - as long as its a 'standard' install - I *think* this - along with a free Sky+HD box - are part of a promotion for new customers up until the 27th May. I have the dish end of things setup myself. But as its a Sky+HD box (they don't charge anymore for the '+' part of the deal from what I can work out? is that right?).
Anyways, I have a terrestrial feed in the living room as well as one sat feed. Can they use the terrestrial feed for sky+ purposes or will it have to be a new run? Either way, is this all part of a standard install? (I will have the feed from the dish for this second cable left as far as the attic for the installer).

One thing they did charge for was not having a landline. I find this annoying - as theres no good reason for it when its not a multi-room install - other than manipulation on the part of sky. Another friend of mine ordered SD over the phone last year and they didn't bother charging him..

Sky will not charge the no phone fee unless you have multi-room. I would advise you to haggle with them. No use giving the extra lolly when they are getting more than enough from you anyway:rolleyes:

Are you a new or existing Sky customer? If existing and you are upgrading once you have everything in and set-up, please confirm the cost and if installation was charged? Thanks.

Installation covers there warranty as well.

There's no way around not paying the installation fee, while it would be handy to have it optional for those who know what they're at - the vast majority wouldn't have a clue and it would hit a lot of installers for work.

Not that I don't think it's slightly ridiculous to pay someone to plug in a box and sync it up with a card.

Well, it was deducted as part of the online order - but I will trash it out with them over the phone - thanks.

I empathise but I don't believe in paying out cash for no good reason!
