My sister's Ka had the same issue, she brought it to an auto electrician who got 2nd hand bits in a scrapyard, was less than €100 I think, where abouts in the country are you ?

Regulating valve on firewall gives trouble in them. I think the price new for the valve is couple of tens of euro. This seems like a good price for a new part:

OP, you might want to look at this a little more closely. Usually a failed heater solenoid valve leaves you with no heat. The heater temp control inside the car itself is a potentiometer (like a volume control on a radio) and this regulates the state of the solenoid valve outside to control the amout of heat inside. When this potentiometer fails, it usually leaves you with heat full on like you are experiencing.

To test, warm the engine and set the temp control to min and confirm air is hot.

Then disconnect the electrical connector to the heater solenoid valve outside and the temp should shut off. If temp stays high, the valve is faulty.

If temp shuts off then reconnect and you get full heat. If so, the temp control inside the car is likely culprit.

Heater control valve failures are quite common in Kas and Mk. 4 Fiestas, surely it can get stuck open as well?

Mine broke a few years ago (stuck on cold), it cost me about €35 for a new valve and I replaced it myself - it's not too hard to do, it's explained pretty well in the Haynes manual.

Have a look here. Could be the heater resister. Same problem happens on the focus.

Yes they can fail open or closed, but usually closed. That is why I suggested the test above to ascertain whether the problem is the valve or the potentiometer.

The resistor as such is the potentiometer I referred to above.
