After resolving to start using my tent and see a bit more of the country, I've started with a county very close to home - Wicklow :p

I camped at the Knocksink Woods Nature Reserve for a night last Wednesday, and I can't fault the place - it was quiet and I got a nice patch of ground to set up in! Although the front gate is currently closed so that adds on to the distance required to carry things.

Because it's so close to Dublin (and the M50) I was worried the place might be unkempt or rubbishy, but I saw nothing of the sort when I was there. Maybe the weekends are different... http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055887109

Apart from the revelry that descends on the place from Dublin, the place seems to be also popular with bird watchers, schools and brisk walkers :)

I meant to get a photo of the little park information sign - one thing I noticed is that the soil in the area has a very unique smell about it - it's very... acidic? Limey? I forget. I'll take a snap of the sign next time tho, it explains why I'm still airing my tent out lol.

Here's a link to the park, have fun! (and don't forget to take your rubbish with you!) http://www.wicklowmountainsnationalpark.ie/KnocksinkEducation.html
