A brilliant, visceral and thrilling film; well worth a look. A Neapolitan version of Goodfellas if ever there was. I'd highly recommend this.

I thought it was only pretty good, not amazingly good.
Romanzo Criminale was very much like an Italian Goodfellas. You can buy it very cheap on dvd.

I honestly don't think it is anything to get excited about.
It's kind of like City of God, except no where near as good and in an Italian setting.

The Conformist is the best Italian made film ever in my opinion.

It's a decent film, plenty of shocking, powerful moments. Yet like all crime films, it takes an age to realise what's going on, who's who, and who wants to kill who. By the end, you have a general grasp, but there is a lot to take in. Solid though.

Quick aside: a woman came in demanding her money back after I rented it to her a few months back. Why, I queried. "Because it's a documentary of a film (???) and you should be able to stand up to what you rent out". Damn people.

I agree with your comment , was expecting a lot more from it but by the time you were familiar with the characters and plotlines , the film was almost over .

Of course , it is probably a more realisitic view of how the mafia operates but I didnt get excited with it.

I work retail and I know how stupid people can be although I don't understand what this woman's problem was. Did she think it was a documentary and feel cheated? Why the long gap between rental and her return? Why are you standing where? Damn customers, anywhere!

edit: most importantly, did you give her the refund?

Excellent film. One of the best released that year.

Romanzo Criminale could not hold a candle to it by the way.

Believe me, I barely understand either. I think her vague complaint was that she didn't like it and wanted her money back. Technically, I probably should have told her that if we did quality based / 'I didn't like it' returns we'd be out of business. She was so persistent that I just gave in and gave her a replacement because she was complaining so much.

As for the 'documentary' comment, I have no idea. Obviously she was trying to make a smart comment about the way it was filmed (it is done in a fairly hand-held, naturalistic manner), but I have no idea why that warrants a refund. People.

Romanzo Criminale is much more of a genre movie. It follows all the rules of the gangster film. I just enjoyed it more than Gomorrah which took a slower, more realistic approach.

One of the best movies I saw last year. Like the other posters said, it has that docu feel, which may not appeal to someone looking for a blockbuster friday night entertainment. Loved the the way mafia guys are portrayed, completely devoid of any glamour or coolness that we often see in Hollywood movies.
