hi all, excuse me if this isnt the right place to post and mods please move if needs be,well basically im trying to obtain an Irish passport and am having trouble with the whole process due to my nationality,my problem is that since birth I have been using a Dutch passport as I was born in the netherlands to an Irish mother and Dutch father. I have been living in Ireland for the past 17 years(im in my early 20's) and have only now decided to get an Irish passport which I should be entitled to as my mother is Irish. But the issue is how can I prove that I am an Irish citizen or that I am the son of an Irish citizen,I have my own birth certificate(translated) and my mothers Original birth cert but dont have my parents marriage certificate which I was told is essential to have for my application. If anybody has any advice it would be greatly appreciated
    thanks
    M

You should register your birth with the consular section of the Department of Foreign Affairs and then you'll get a certificate of entry on to the register and you'll then be able to apply for the Irish passport. I presume you've gotten that far, hence the question about the marriage cert.

If your parents were married in the netherlands you'll have to request a copy marriage certificate from there. It shouldn't be a problem getting one though. If the marriage was in Ireland, you can get a copy of the marrige cert from the Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages in Lombard St, Dublin 2 for €10 or €20 (not sure of the fees these days).

If it's impossible to get the marriage cert, you should attempt to contact the consular section in writing and explain the problem. They may waive the requirement in your case.
