Fiat 1.2 gasket problem (again!)

    Hi Folks,
Just read thread from Jan 10 where user was quoted for repair to gasket for Fiat 1.2. Various opinions as to whether it's worth replacing and the right price for such a job.
I have a similar dilemma and am looking for a recommendation for a mechanic for the job. I also have a 1.2, 01 Reg and today was quoted €900 to replace gasket and trimming from a city centre garage. They recently serviced the car (€450 total to replace various bits and bobs) and the following day the gasket problem kicked in. Have spent at least €1000 on repairs (have car 2 years) to date I'm tempted to scrap her rather than spending the best part of another €1k. However, on the other hand it might be worth getting the job done if I can source a more reasonable and reputable mechanic to do the job for me, then sell her and try to recoup some of the money.
Can anyone recommend a good mechanic that has done similar work for them at a more affordable price?
I'm based city centre but happy to travel in Dublin if it means I'm not getting ripped off and the job gets done properly.
    Any suggestions much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Jim

Assuming your car is a Fiat Punto and need a head gasket job, €900 is ripping the P!$$. The car would be worth only around that price.

I can recommend someone who can do the job at a reasonable price and he is city centre based. PM me if you can't get anyone to do it yourself.
