    Hello Folks,

Right basically I'm useless when it comes to radios and all that hubbub, But I doo understand that a headset is a good idea, and I'm just wondering if anyone has a clue as to what headset would work with these http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/5531055/Trail/searchtext%3ETWO+WAY+RADIO.htm

just something that allows me to broadcast as Ive tried a few things and it didn't work!!

    heers for any help,
    Glenn

Hey Glenn - you need to check out how many pins are used in the connection for the headset - this dictates whether or not a certain type is needed. For example, my motorola comes with a single pin connection - but some motorolas are also twin pin. Not sure about binatone - you'd need to google the model and see can you find the specs.

Actually, not too sure about compatability of any of the stuff with binatone, so I'll let someone else comment on that.

After you've worked out the connection from the radio to your PTT box (which is the cable that runs from your radio to the box with the Push to talk button - hence PTT) you'll also need to make sure that the connection between the PTT and your headset is the same/right type. After that the type of headset is just a matter of choice.

I'd personally recommend a 'military' pin connection between the PTT and headset and a cavalry headset, like this one:

    http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/combat-gears/headsets/cavalvy-tasc-tactical-headset-tan.html

These are good - allow you to hear external noise while also giving clear comms. Some people prefer the 'swimmer' style headsets because they give a full seal around the earpiece making for less sound escaping the headset and potentially giving away your position - but I've never had a problem with the cavalry - mainly as my ineptitude gives away my position, not my comms chatter! :D

very vauge memorey of them being single pins, from the reviews here they look like a cracking bit of kit for the price

Don't buy those ones from argos! Thery're not compatible with any headsets.

Aldi was doing some cheap radio's a while back. The were pretty good for 20 euro. I still use them :)

+1 on that - those Aldi radios are great for any of the skirmish sites you're likely to be using this on. Easily as good as the entry level motorolas I used at first.

    Cheers for the replies lads,
unfortunately I already have them and after a bit of searching I've found that they use a "4 ring"??? connection on a 2.5 mm jack which I'v never heard of!!, so now I'm completely baffled!!

some old hands free kits have the four rings, but you could try maplins and see if they have an adaptor to go from say 3.5mm jack to the 2.5mm, might work

There is a jack avalible, but sadly for some reason maplins dont have it. Looked a while ago myself.

I ended up returning the radios back to argos.
