Mobile Shop

    Hi,

I wanted some general advice and also to find out if anyone has heard of this kind of venture before.

My idea is to turn an ex city/service bus (one of the low floor ones) into a mobile shop and take it round the festivals, vintage fairs, car boot sales, village shows and big events round the country... or the east, north east and midlands at least. There seems to be a good few of these on week to week.

I have sourced the ideal bus for a good price and have researched some of the equipment required and narrowed it down to what would be best suitable to a mobile shop (i.e. least amount of electricity and water needed). Essentially the business is a glorified ice cream van, coffee shop and mobile sweet shop.

Any help, ideas or links would be appreciated. :D

You may have to get a casual trading license to do this unfortunately. They are in high demand and for events they are granted on a rotational basis. So you may only get 3 dates a year on which you could do business.

I'm not sure what license ice cream vans trade under and if you could do so under same. If you find this out I'd appreciate a PM because I'm interested in casual trading as well (my idea isn't competitive with yours).

Contact your local council and see what they have to say about it.

Thats interesting to know cianos... I'll go and enquire about that today... Think it would be better to push it as a glorified ice cream van and see where i get with that... i'll let you know how i get on anyway

I got in touch with the local council. In a field or private property you don't need a casual trading liscence, just permission from the land owners.

If I want to trade at their st. paticks day festivities or easter fairs etc. i need to apply for a special once off permit and I need public liabilty insurance to the tune of 6.3million...

Basically if its a private area then no, if its a public area then yes a trading licence is needed.
