    Hi everybody,

I today received a letter from my local SW Office asking me to attend this interview next Tuesday as I am now unemployed three months. I understand why I have to attend this interview but what I would like to know is what is the best way to approach this interview? I am a qualified accountant and have actually gone on a FAS course off my own bat in the last three months. So, what happens on this interview and what will I be made do as a result? Thanks

They just go through your cv with you and try to match you up with a suitable job.

The whole point of the 3 month FAS interview is to try and help you. they are going to try and match your needs up with what they can offer.

The worst thing to do is not attend, however going along, and having a conversation with this person might turn out to be useful to you, or it might not.

Just a bit nervous about it - which considering all the exams I've done is a bit strange :) Thanks for the help and advice guys

I have done two of them since leaving work. The first one got me a years course and landed me in a 6 month job. The second one has me doing ECDL as a result of feedback on my 6 month job, not enough up-to-date knowledge of PC applications.

If taken as part of your development the interviews are nothing to be nervous about.

Fas are snowed under with people looking for courses and the days when people were put on courses they only had a half-hearted interest in or to massage the dole figures downward are long gone.

There has been a change from long courses down to 10 week courses with more people being put through the system as cheaply as possible.

The emphasis is also being put on online courses which do not affect you getting the dole, as you are still "availiable" for work and are expected to take up any available offer if one should arise...................
The upshot is that these online courses are free of charge to recipients of JA and JB both for the course and exams, which can be sat at you nearest FAS exam centre. Typical courses such as ECDL can cost in the hundreds.

Hmm does that mean as I'm getting JA I could go on a FAS course for ECDL?
It's something I would like to have (have basic-intermediate word, basic excel) I think I did a few of the exams for it years ago (file management one) I could do with a bit of practice experience plus it might be handy to have ECDL on the CV even though I am more than proficient in a few aspects of computer use I guess this just proves it to people.
When I was in FAS they told me ahh no, no courses or long list no point applying?? surely I'd be as well to put my name down?
