Foreign Affairs Minister Micheál Martin has told the Dáil there is a backlog of 62,000 passports waiting to be processed in the passport offices in Dublin and Cork.

It now takes up to eight weeks to get a passport by ordinary post, or more than a month to receive one through the express service.

Minister Martin said the backlog was as a result of ongoing industrial action by the civil and public services union.

He appealed to them to cooperate with the recruitment of temporary staff to allow more passports to be processed.

I thought they had gotten rid of the backlog after all of the fuss. Guess not and now we are heading into the summer travel season. Fun times ahead methinks

I offer one kidney and for an added €100 processing fee the chance to represent my cousin Mr. Abijad Domanjisu and collect $ 13,998,977 on behalf of his estate. How could you refuse.

Sent for mine on 13th March and only got it 11th May. Through the Royal Mail express service. Friend had a wedding last Saturday (in Ireland I live in UK and need a passport for Ryanair as I don't drive) and just got it on time.

Absolute disgrace that this has been allowed to happen. Someone's ar$e needs to be kicked over it. Seriously thinking of renouncing my citizenship.

How much do you reckon you could get for your passport if you sold it?
    Seriously?
