    Hi.

My ipod wont turn on or connect to the computer - all that happens is the harddrive clicks.

Any chance of fixing it? the cables are grand as is the comp as i tested diff on both so.

    Thanks in advance.

    whoops thought i mentioned this.

It went into a booting loop until i eventually got it to stop and charge up and everything thing seemed normal and then it went blank and made the clicking noises etc.

So I cant restart it anymore.

    Thanks tho.

    Anymore advice?

    damn thats what I thought.

Would it be cheaper to buy a new one (€230) or get the drive replaced.

Any chance Apple could give me back the files on it????

a friend had an ipod classic that had symptoms similar to yours. I had a go at resetting it, etc. to no avail. I was going to London so I made an appointment and brought it to the Genius Bar at Apple, Regent St. It was out of warranty btw. The girl there connected it up and ran some software on it. I could see her screen and it was an app I hadn't seen before. It worked and the iPod has been fine since.

by files you mean music, vids and photos? Do you not have them available on your pc/mac via iTunes anyway (assuming that's how they got onto your iPod)?

I have most of them on my mac in itunes.

but some i dont maybe 500 or so and I dont have the numerous itunes u items i donwloaded and move onto my ipod as my 120 gb hardrive was full because of all the music and 500mb video lectures on it.

Not a huge deal - if they can re fit a new harddrive for a decent price I will be more than happy to loose the drive as it is unlikely they can do anything to a drive that wont start up anyway.

As I said I am clutching at straws, knowingly but hoping.

Hit the back of it off your knee (a single sharp smack) :) It may sound mad but it brought my iPod back to life about a year ago and it has worked without problems since.

    Here's a video I found - if you're not sure about it:

No not crazy I tried that as a last resort.

Might nudge the hard drive back in place - but didnt work.

Ya it def sounds like a harddrive failure...You wont be able to get the files back however there is a battery replacement scheme available in Apple Premium resellers where you can get a brand new (model you own) replacement for 89 euro also comes with 3 months warranty
