I have a seven year old presario 2511EA laptop. She works but she is slow. Norton 2010 running on it does not help. Is there any to speed her up such software, changing cpu speeds ( currently 2.4Ghz P4) or replacing either memory, cpu or whole motherboard ?

    no, no and no.

waste of time, a 7 year old laptop now is a relic. maybe (extra) memory might make a difference, but its a big ask.

you wont get a processor for that its ancient

As said it's not worth it. Maybe a memory upgrade, but anything more is just not worth the effort. You wouldn't see any real speed improvement.

    Get rid of Norton :)
Use Avira AntiVir, AVG or something else instead.
Wiping the hard drive and re-installing Windows might help if you have not done so recently.

How much RAM does it have? I'd suggest 1GB min for Windows XP these days, but it's hard to justify spending any money on a laptop of that age. If you really want to, buy second-hand.

Processor speed may be throttled due to overheating problems - heatsinks, etc. could be full of dirt. Use HWMonitor to monitor temperatures (it may not support your laptop though) and CPU-Z to see if the CPU is being throttled, they are both here: http://www.cpuid.com/
