if so, with data in front of you other than making a histogram and getting normal distribution curve how to see if the data is normally distributed?

If your just assesing the normality there should be a box in the output in spss for 'tests of normality', from what i remember you should be given a kolmogorov-smirnov score, if thats non significant it suggests normality. Hope that helps!!

    Hey,

I was just wondering what people could tell me of the Psychology course?
I have it down on my CAO through Arts undenominated and through science?

Can anyone tell me what the course is like, and not the same nonsense in the prospectus, like what EXACTLY you should know, like should you be really good at maths etc. to choose it?

    Thanks
    :D

You should read the thread at the top of the page about asking anything you need to know about subjects/courses, and also feel free to post any questions in there.

    Hi OP,

You need to generate a PP or QQ plot from the analyze tab. You should also run descriptives, but also check the skewness and kurtosis boxes. What you get in the PP plot is a plot of your observed values against expected normally-distributed values at each percentile. You can assess normality be reporting the deviation of the points from the line.

Check your stats book for normal limits of skewness and kurtosis. You could also just eyeball the histogram to check for both. Be careful with your terms when reporting! (Platy/Leptokurtic - Positive/Negative Skew)
