People who carry a lot of weight around their middle are at increased risk of developing dementia, say researchers.

A US study of more than 700 adults showed that being overweight is associated with smaller brain volume, a factor linked with dementia.

The finding was particularly strong in those with high levels of visceral fat - fatty tissue which sits around the organs, Annals of Neurology reported.

The results showed that as BMI increased, brain volume decreased - a finding that has been reported in other studies.

But the findings also showed a closer connection between abdominal fat and the risk of dementia.

The link between visceral fat around the central organs and smaller brain volume was independent of overall weight.

Balls, forgot what I was going to say in reaction to this :P :D

I think they're overplaying the effects of drink, it's wears off by the morning, no panic.

You should write for a tabloid newspaper... you would do well OP.

    "Will get"

    "are at increased risk "

Quite a difference there OP...

I'd be willing to bet that everyone would get Dementia or Alzheimer's if they lived long enough.

Where does it mention beer belly?

That's twice now I've asked. Once more and I'll conclude you've been drinking too much beer.

I drink until I get demented and afterwards I can't remember **** - does that count me in?

P.S. I've got a fairly respectable beer gut.

So they'll end up forgetting where the off-licence and the pub are.
Beer belly reduces..... Dementia & Alzheimers goes away.
    Problem?
