    Just a question!

If the velocity of all airsoft guns are to be certain joules, would that not mean sniper rifles would have the same velocity as, say my M4A1?!

If so the sniper rifle would need to be deadly accurate to be of benefit.

    Answers please?!

velocity has nothing to do with range or accuracy in qualty airsoft guns.

    Correct.

Or you get satisfaction from a very different style of play. One that won't see you going through a bottle of bbs a day, and where you really work for and savour each "kill".

Also, don't hold me to this but wouldn't a longer barrel give the gun a longer range?
And it is about the style of play which differs for everyone.
Or atleast thats what I was told when I asked which would be better an Gr16 or an WELL L96.

A Longer barrel does not give better range, it will improve your accuracy but range is a function of hop-up and projectile velocity, mass and aerodynamics.

the longer barrel will increase ''effective range'', it will increase grouping if a barrel gives you a 1 foot grouping at distance of 30 foot a longer barrel could give you a 1 foot grouping at 50 foot ( be aware these figures are just an example but you get the idea )

distance is nothing if you have a 5 foot grouping :)

A lot of sniping is about the stealth and patience of a kill, working the environment and you camo into blending in.
Recon of the enemy and the terrain to benefit you and your team.

Snipers HAVE to be this pedantic because as you say when all power levels are equal then the actual sniper RIFLE part becomes irrelevant, they might as well have a smg firing at 1j so they try to make up for the obvious deficit in power vs weight and mobility with very very obvious clutching at straws "its about being smarter" ????

The fact of the matter is the love the idea of a sniper and the rifles themselves so try to be as effective as one can be with a long heavy cumbersome rifle...... I love snipers because of this, its the triumph of irrational love for something over common sense!!! and thats excellent no matter what.

I snipe because the guys on my team are crazy. When we play against one another if they hear a shot they tend to pour i the bbs.
Whereas, I can lie in wait, with my very quite sniper rifle, and take them out one by one, without giving away my position or getting a couple of thousand dots all over me.

Atleast thats what I did until my magazine went kablooei :)

All Airsoft guns including Sniper rifles have to be under 1 Joule in Ireland.
No Airsoft gun can be deadly accurate, it's basically a ball musket.
Airsoft sniping is about stealth, tactics and patience, a style of play.
In a good game, aspects of sniping/rifleman/support will be used,
it's more about player skill & stealth in Airsoft, really. :)

At Players of War in Scotland, gas sniper rifles have a max limit of 500 fps. Springers have a limit of 440 fps. Maybe you should have asked "what's the point of sniper rifles in Ireland".

Hopefully when our reactionary government realize that airsoft is actually safer than the majority of other sports played in Ireland (I'm looking at you GAA) they'll ease up on some of the unnecissary restrictions.

Not to get into politics here but given the way our system is structured it's not going to happen. TDs are too busy helping people fill out passport applications and dealing with complaints about poor streetlighting to do anything more than take a 100% reactionary stance to whatever bill comes down the line.

I have a friend who snipes with his springer - Hes made himself his own ghillie suit and loves the who stealth and recon of playing. He gets immense enjoyment from it too - and a fair few kills.

not really correct as the rules are that gas uses should aim for 440 but they will allow fluctuation up to 500 but a gas rifle firing an average close to 500 would be be allowed

just try sniping-ala-airsoft , it is the MOST satisfying way to send someone back to the respawn.

sure you can dig in and camo up and pick those shots....
me personally , im more of a pro-active sniper always moving but sneakier than Mr Deeds butler...."bery bery sneaky sir"
