    of high quaility

already using focal be6 solos for "mains " ;) ( these have a port , and a crossover - so id like something to deal with transients and possbile speaker driver phase better ) )

would like something more in the field for midrange balancing and transient checking

    options so far

1/ ns 10s with good amp = approx 700 euro
2/ avantone mix cubes active - approx 450 euro
3/ SIR convolution plugin already in place running an auratone impulse ( free ) - but uses the focals to speak .

    http://www.thelikelystory.com/articles/nuendo-tips-and-tricks/88-simulate-a-mix-through-an-auratone-speaker

any suggestions as to which would be the most reasonable option ?

Of those choices, definitely NS10 IMO. Auratone frequency response is too limited.

It seems to me that using an impulse response of a speaker noted for its transient response, through a speaker that has worse transient response, seems pointless? What am I missing?

Not really as if the speakers are 300-350ish the amp is only the same so not the highest spec amp going....

The NS10's out of that list are the best option but there is better for same price.... ADAM A7's active and ready to roll?!?

buy a single auratone, its meant to give a mid focused tight transient response.
also give a better idea of what a mix will sound like in the average home/car.
they're not bad enough to replicate laptop speakers and the average crap
    docking solution for ipods.
also will allow you to check mono compatiblity.

The biggest factor is always the speaker/room interaction. The anomalies can be 20-30dB. Because of this, other speakers in the same room will behave very similarly.
Acoustic treatment of the room can improve this situation dramatically.
Historically I used to verify my mixing on three systems, in three different places.
I now work in a highly treated room. Whenever I wander into my kitchen to listen on another totally different system in an untreated room, I get no surprises. Translation. It works, first time, all the time. I call it freedom!

    Yes, freedom is good! :)

NS10 are better than Auratone for checking. IME if you mix exclusively on Auratone the vocal comes out at too low a level on other systems.
