Hi I go to nerja every year.
For hotels The Balcon De Europa Hotel, Hostal Marrisal, Plaza Cavana and Apartments Toboso couldn't be more central!
Things to do . . Ayo's is a great authentic spanish restaurant on the Burriana beach where you could try the best Paella, fresh fish etc Its the most popular spot with the locals especially on sundays and is outdoors with unbelievable views
The Nerja caves are a good day trip and I have to suggest the village of Frigiliana its about 15 mins from nerja and is an amazing place
Hope it helps I can try answer any other questions you might have too.

was in Plaza Cavana last year and it was fine, nothing too fancy but central indeed and not too expensive ;)

Was there in Feb, for a few days - a pleasant enough spot! If you have a rental car, Granada is only an hour+ up the motorway, and is well worth a visit. We stayed in the Hotel Jimesol, which was fine.

Consider renting a villa, depending how many of you going it might be much better value.

I was there in May last year, for a wedding, about 60 people, some of us stayed in villas some in hotels, villas were definitely better option.

We had a great villa, 10 of us stayed there comfortably and it costed us a €1000 for a week, we had our own little pool and a great bbq area.

I think you could rent a nice 2 bed villa for a week for about €600 - €800 p/w, whcih may be comparable with a hotel room.

Anyway, Nerja is great, I would reccomend renting a moped and going to Frigilliana and to the cave (can't remember the name, you'll find it noi problem though), they are bouth about 15 min (on a moped) from Nerja and well worth seeing.
