    Hi All,

I need some advice; I’m looking at investing some money on the stock market and in turn learning about how different investment options work. I’m not really looking to make a fast buck (although it would be nice), I’m more looking at medium/long term investments. With this in mind I want to set-up an online trading account so that I can manage it myself (keep costs down) and learn the system as I go (with small amounts of money). I suppose I’ve two separate questions –

    1) Does anyone have an opinion (good, bad or indifferent) about any of the following TD Waterhouse, Davy’s, Goodbody? Since I’m looking at investing for the medium to long term I want an account with low (or no) annually admin fees. I also don’t want to be limited to just trading on the Irish/British stock exchanges, I want to be able to by share of companies worldwide. Are there any other companies offering a similar service that I’m overlooking?

    2) Can anyone recommend a good course that I could attend that would teach me the basics on trading? I’ve seen a few courses but they seem very expensive (1 day course 499 euro), is it just me or is that crazy money for a one day course?? Can I get just as much from a good book (any recommendations?) as one of these courses?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

    Matt.

Goodbody's & Davy's fees are not very competitive.

TD Waterhouse get the thumbs up from me. I like their platform and the ability to trade international markets.

Still looking into it but TD Waterhouse looks like the best of the irish offerings so far. Haven't really found anything in courses to date.
