Hi there, does anyone know how much progress has been made on the Grand Canal cycle/pedestrian route from Parkwest to Adamstown/Lucan. It is accessible from parkwest (and further east) as far as Newlands Lucan road but not sure of the state of the path further west?
    thanks!

I'm living at Parkwest - and yes it is accessible at that point. I recently cycled west along the canal as far as the outer ring road with no difficulties. But going into the city is another thing as the route was almost impassable at the kylemore road bridge. And they have now erected an iron fence across the path at Kylemore completely blocking it. So you can cycle as far as the Killeen road bridge only.

Thanks Dogmatix! One more question, were you able to exit at the outer ring road? although I am hoping that I can get as far as the newcastle road before exiting...

I went out as far as the "lock road" or R120 as marked on some maps. This is where the new cycleway appears to terminate. Easy access at this point. The next exit is the outer ring road or R136 - two ramps here down on to the cycleway (the west exit ramp appears to be blocked with an iron fence - the east ramp appears to be open). There is a single ramp open at the next road - the R113/Fonthill road. The lucan newlands road offers easy access to the canal.
