I'm looking at a Ford Focus 2008 Titanium, 1.8tdci 115ps with 40,000 miles (UK reg). £9,500 which I should clear for €13,000. I've heard the 1.6 is a better engine but am finding one hard to come by without going to the UK. Any advice?

Price wise that isn't too bad at all, the 1.8 has old origins but there is for and against both engines. Is the one you're looking at already in Ireland, is it from a dealer or private ?

Thanks RoverJames. Its in Ireland already. Had a look at it and it's in great nick and drives well. Very tempted at this stage as I've been looking for a while. It's from a dealer.

20,000 a year isn't out of the way on a UK diesel, it would be unlikely to have been clocked but you never know if she is showing that mileage on the odometer. It's a pity the VRT is that much, what do the revenue dudes have as the open market selling price on an 08 Focus ?

Don't reckon it's clocked and comes with full service history plus usual checks.

    OPEN MARKET SELLING PRICE: €11500
    RATE OF TAX: 16%
    VEHICLE REGISTRATION TAX: €1840

Most 1.6 TDCi Foci sold here from 2006 onwards are the detuned 90bhp version anyway and they even stopped selling it here at one stage as they had a load of 1.8 TDCi to shift. The 1.8 TDCi is not the worst in fairness, less refined and noisier than the 1.6 TDCi but doesn't come with the Particle Filter (DPF) afaik like the 1.6 litre which is an expensive replacement at around 100k miles.

Titanium spec was only ever sold here in 3 door, the 5 door equivilant was the Ghia, the Titanium had silver effect dashboard inserts where as the Ghia had wood effect inserts.
