".exe" files not opening

    Well,
I have Windows 7 and it appears that I have unwittingly instructed the computer to use Windows Media Center to open all files with a ".exe" extension. As you can appreciate, I cannot use my computer as all I seem to be doing is opening Windows Media Center each time.
I have tried to change the default, but that does not seem to help and all the default programme files look OK.

Extremely frustrating! Any suggestions? All suggestions I have come across require me to open a programme and I can't as Windows Media gets opened instead.

Can you not Right Click on the file and go to Open With and choose which Application

    For Windows 7

Pretty sure this only works in Windows 7
    Here is the download link.

    1. Click on the file extension type link listed below for the one that you wish to restore to default to download it's .zip file.

    2. Save the .zip file to your desktop.

    3. Open the .zip file, then extract the .reg file to the desktop.

    4. Right click on the .reg file and click on Merge.

    5. Click on the Run button in the Security Warning pop-up.

    6. Click on Continue (UAC), Yes, and OK when prompted.

    7. When done, you can delete the downloaded .zip and .reg files on the desktop if you like.

    8. Log off and log on, or restart the computer to apply.
