You ever see that scene in I'm Alan Partridge where he's meeting the head of the BBC and he just starts saying the first thing that comes to mind as ideas for television programs? Ends up with Cooking In Prison and Monkey Tennis

Aw happy out for the Americans.
If they want to come to the cinema here it works out at about what 13 dollars? But with a discount scheme ran by our fantastic government they could probably get it for 12.50 :) That's excellent when you compare it to about 8 dollars in America with huge seats, excellent facilities and decent sound. Sure you're paying extra to see how **** ours are. :D

Out of the three issues you brought up, only cost registered as a possible issue with tourists visiting Ireland. A lot of people come here visiting friends and relatives, Ireland is also seen as somewhat of a "must do" location in the past decade or so. The weather doesn't come up all that much as an issue, our perception of it is worse than that of visitors. One other issue that did come up was that visitors rathered meeting Irish people in hospitality services jobs than foreign nationals, Irish people are seen in a very positive light abroad. Again, it's our own perception that blackens our own name.

We have a history and heritage that is interesting beyond belief if told and shown correctly. Behind many hedges and hillocks right across the country there are rich stories to be told, not bull leprechauns or things like that but the actual history of our country.

What makes you think I'm an unfriendly person?

Yeah. I think the Irish are going through a major image change. I mean, the old image of Leprechauns, shamrock, Guinness, horses running through council estates, toothless simpletons, people with eyebrows on their cheeks, badly tarmacced drives – in this country, men in platform shoes being arrested for bombings, lots of rocks, and Beamish. I think people are saying “yes, there’s more to Ireland than this”. A good slogan for the tourist board – “Dere’s more to Oireland dan dis.”"

Actually,I'm quite an optimistic person. I was just pointing out that I'd find it difficult to understand why people would want to come here.
And I wouldn't be one of the unfriendly people,I'd gladly help tourists when they ever stop me and ask for directions or whatever. But that isn't what you insinuated in the first post 'Lets hope they don't meet you' or something to that extent. It's also great that you can form an opinion of my personality from two posts. :)

Some people just like something different. Lots of green & rain can be just the ticket depending on where you've come from.

I personally like to spend time in the desert/barren landscapes when I can. I doubt too many people who've grown up in such conditions feel the same affection about it.

TBH.. it's another case of foreigners being treated better then... non-foreigners...

Where's my discount for being Irish and going around... doing touristy stuff... in Ireland... Surely I should get more of a discount?
