It was good to see Bernard Dunne looking so well as part of the RTE panel in UL last Saturday.

The more I think of it, I'm convinced that the win over Cordoba took a great deal out of him, and contributed big-time to his defeat by Poonsawat.

Anyway, I'm glad he retired when he did and hope he continues to enjoy life with his wife and kids.

He's a guy you'd have as a role model for kids. He is very Irish. He has a pleasant manner. He is confident and clear but never cocky. He trained hard and acheived a lot.

I'd like to bump into him some day and tell him in person. Funny that I got to congratulate Poonsawat at the airport in Dublin but never had a chance to meet Bernard.

I hope you get the chance to say that to him in person. The old line "You're always disappointed when you meet your heroes" won't apply to Bernard, I'd say.

He's an absolute gent with the fans. Even when they keep coming up one after another and he is out or whatever. Takes some professionalism and good personality to do that. Have the event sky +'d but wont see it for a while. Id say he will be a regular analyst on pro box. Hope so anyway.

He is a very nice guy. My girlfriend is a radiographer and treated him when he'd injure his hands. Very modest, personable guy - a real credit to boxing

While that may indeed be true, I don't think any version of Bernard would have beaten Poonsawat.

Good point. I was using his experience as an example of how much an all-out war can affect a boxer in later fights.

    You're 100% right about Poonsawat.
