    hey guys,
apologies if this has been asked loads already.

im going on a j1 this summer and i was wondering whats the best type of id to have with me for going out to clubs, bars and buying drink etc.

im just not very comfortable with having to bring my passport out every night, incase it gets robbed, or i lose it.... nightmare situation!!!

so do they accept any other type of id, such as garda card or drivers license?

    thanks!!! :)

A lot of places will only accept a passport. In some states the DMV issue an ID card, check if you will be able to get one for the state you are going to if you are really worried about losing your passport.

Garda Age card won't work at all anyways, it's not recognised as legitimate ID there so there's no point. Sometimes my driver's licence worked but the only guaranteed ID was my passport.

Photocopy your passport a few times, keep them somewhere safe, if anything does happen to your passport it's much easier to get a replacement or get home with a photocopy of all your details. Friend of mine lost his and had an emergency one within days.
