Can somebody explain to me the reasoning behind this infernal thanks button? I am relatively new to this site, but it appears to me that the only purpose it serves is to increase the number of ludicrous jokes whose raison d'etre is to garner as many signatures in that little box as possible.

If you write something which you think is amusing it that not enough? Why then do you need a load of people doing the electronic equivalent of tapping you on the shoulder and saying "hey, that was a good one buddy".

It also seems that the most inane posts get heaped with "thanks", I don't need to look any further than some of my own posts which have been thanked to see that.

Or am I missing something, perhaps it is gas and I don't get it.

The thanks button is there so people can say:

    I agree
    Thanks for posting that
    I found that helpful
    That was funny
    etc..

its there so we don't have to look at 50 pages of people saying "hey, that was a good one buddy".

And any other reason they think off

Why put any deeper thought into it?
