Hi, I have been in the past a sky subscriber. Now out of work and cannot afford to pay the bill each month. I am looking for an alternative. Can anyone make a suggestion. I still have have my digital receiver, if that helps. Just would like a few channels. I would prefer a one off payment , no bills.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    PS. I'm not very techno

You can use your current equipment to receive Free to Air satellite TV, assuming your dish is still in place

For a quick preview of the Free to air Sat channels you can get on a sky box without a sub just unplug your Sky box and remove your viewing card, restart the box and you'll see the EPG (program guide) will have changed. BBC, ITV and loads more are free and can be viewed, you'll get a pop up error on the likes of sky if you try to view them. No RTE or TV3

To make it easier to see the channels you have all in one place, save the free to air ones as favourites(go to services--favourite channels and follow the instructions, i think you press yellow to tick the ones you want and then select when you're done.

Then when you press TV guide to see whats on, just press the blue button next and it will display the free channels all together and you can see whats on for the day.

You can only save 50 in favourites but that should do it anyway.

    Ok?

If you have an internet connection 'pet' the RTE player replays all the previous weeks, or last couple of shows of all your favorite programs. Binned my sky and just bought a humax 320gb HD pvr same as sky+ without the costs. So along with my new humax box, the RTE player (played thru my PS3) I don't think I'll miss sky (particularly the costs) a whole lot.

I popped into Maplin today picked up a Freesat box they have on offer now for 50 euro. Instantly picked up all the BBC ITV C4 E4 more 4 all the + 1 channels and sky news. Which are the only channels i watch on the subscription service anyway. Ran another cable upto the bedroom to another box which is a free to air reciever not as good as Freesat as they dont have a good tv listings and its slow to flick channels if your board.

The one i got today is brilliant and for 50 euro !

Are there not more channels on the free to air with the UK card from BBC? As far as I recall there are more music channels on it.
