1970 Triumph 1300 located in Dublin 8, free to take away.

It needs to be gone soon

Lower suspension arm is coming away from the frame (will include replacement plate to fix it) also spare radiators included to replace current leaky ones.

Windscreen is broken, but I do have a replacement I could supply.

    Hi Cormac,

I'd be interested in this, it would be good company for my dolomite!

    Any more info? Colour etc.

Is it able to be moved? (on to trailer)

    Thanks
    Tom

although the suspension is coming away from the frame, it hasn't detached, so should be possible to roll onto trailer.

re: "Thats the one with the ringgear on the front of the engine isnt it?"
    yes that's it

blue like the first pic on the wiki (though paintwork in poor condition, also some dents)

OK, so far I have 3 PMs, I will go through them in order.
If I'm not getting any response, you can't commit to a pickup date / time or you fail to show, I will move on to the next person on the list.

I know the car, I'm from that general area, been there quite a while but looks restoreable

Hopefully it goes to a good home where it will be restored, original Irish car too if memory serves?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 487 ✭✭cormac_byrne

The car has been picked up. It went to jimbobjones40.

I found more spares than I knew I had,
so he got a good load of stuff in the end.

Sad to see it go, but was pointless leaving it to rot outside my door any longer.

@ Onkle, no it was a UK car (imported by another boardsie gfwd)

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    Nice one!

Naturally it is now up to jimbobjones40 to put up pics before and after restoration. Failing that would earn you a ban from this forum, Jim. Get on with it :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 134 ✭✭jimbobjones40

Thanks Cormac she'll be well looked after. :)

Fixed those flat tyres as soon as I got her home ... next job is the broken windscreen ... then those suspension repairs. After that it's pretty much just a few simple rust repairs and a good service.

Unkel I'll get those before pictures up as soon as I get a chance.

It's like this one (only it's silver and definitely not as clean:D):

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 134 ✭✭jimbobjones40

    Watch12,
got your private message yesterday. As your first person to message me the car is yours. I'll PM you my number.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 487 ✭✭cormac_byrne

    What have I started :)

    @ Watch12

Have you a free car to post and keep this thread going?

    @ Jimbobjones40

Forgot to mention, the little bollixes who were jumping on the car, painting / scratching it etc... have had the filler cap off a few times. so wouldn't be a surprise to me if there was gravel or other rubbish in the tank.

As Cormac said, this was a car that I imported from Reading in England back in 2002 (or was it 03?). I'd been looking out for one for a while as we had one in the family back in the 70s and I always wanted one of my own. I bought it on ebay, unseen, apart from a few photos. I had it serviced and used it pretty much every other day for 2 years without any trouble. I ran out of petrol in it twice due to a faulty petrol gauge or tank sender. Also has to be the most comfortable car to sit in. Seats like armchairs.

Great car and I'd have taken it back like a shot if it wasn't for the fact i'm pretty useless when it comes to repairing or restoring cars and I don't have anywhere to keep it. I also have a Dolomite now that gives me enough headaches and needs sorting asap so anything else would have caused divorce proceedings! I have a few pics at home somewhere of the car during my ownership so we can have before, after and now pics!

There's a framed pic of me with the car on the wall at home from when it was used as our friends wedding car. It was always pretty much a condition 2 car and if you can get it back to that jimbob it'll be a job well done. :)

Didn't get any of her straight off the trailer with the broken windscreen and flat front tyres but here's a few of her with before and after rust and dent repairs to the driver side.
Have to fit new coil springs all round and put in a working radiator then I'll be back to doing some more body work.
    Anyway as promised:

God Bless your hands Jimbo... Very neat work:cool:
    Best of luck with her.:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 291 ✭✭gfwd

Nice work Jim, great to see her in good hands. I'd love to see her again when the work is finished.

I recommend joining the Dolomite Club in the UK if you're looking for spares and advice etc (their forum is excellent), also Mick Dolphin is the main man for fwd spares. Best of luck!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 487 ✭✭cormac_byrne

Great work so far, I second that recommendation for Mick Dolphin. I got parts there that weren't available anywhere else. He even knows about parts, the others hadn't even heard of! (i.e. the washer kit to convert from 1300 to 1500 front suspension, when replacing fulcrum frames)

Well done on the resto work its coming along very well.

If i'm not mistaken that wing mirror isn't original however I believe its off an early Series 1 SD1.

If you decide to replace it take it off carefully and don't damage it. they are NLA and rarer than hens teeth. I'll gladly advertise it on the owners club for it to go to a good home.

    Kind regards,

    John

Cormac have you replaced this with a Defender?

Great work Jim, can't wait to see it finished

No have had the Series IIa (with some Series III / defender bits) for about 4 years now, though been off the road last 2. (broken timing belt + broken off studs when removing water pump)

Re: the wing mirror, I don't know anything about SD1s but their pics always show mirror with triangular mount at window height. That mirror is mounted onto the door (not very well fell off a few times, so was put back on with bigger screws each time).

I always assumed it was a bog standard Halfords type replacement mirror

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,096 ✭✭✭johnos1984

After looking second time it isn't one for an SD1. The shape of the mirror is very similar but the attachment isn't.

Sorry about the confusion. Standard BL chrome mirrors should fit such as those fitted to Austin Maxi's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 916 ✭✭✭Joe 90

If I remember correctly they did not have a dorr mirror, at least as standard in 1967. I did my driveing test in one in 1967 and I remember that the first car that I drove with a door mirror was a BMW 1600 a year or two later.

I was quite surprise by the door mirror, wondered what these Germans would think of next.

It is a boggo Halfords type thing. Probably by Summit accessories.

BL ones are Wingard or Tex type things. Although the dealer could have fitted anything as for '70 vintage, it wouldn't have left the factory with any.

I'll no doubt see it in the flesh soon enough. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 291 ✭✭gfwd

That mirror was on it when i got it. It was a piece of cheap 80s tat that I should have replaced! Looked all wrong.

    http://i518.photobucket.com/albums/u350/Garyfin/DSCF0007.jpg

This would be what many people did in the 70s, my preference would be door mounted mirrors.
