Hi I was a bit drunk at the weekend and when I came out of pub a guy was shouting and having an argument with his girlfriend I thought he was getting abusive and I said to him to leave her alone (i know I should have kept my mouth shut) he went ballistic and we ended up shouting at one another two garda came over and restrained him the garda asked me my name and address and told me to go away which I did will I be prosecuted for public order offence or get a caution?

I'd say you'll hear no more about it.

You might possibly be called as a witness if they want to charge the other guy.

Name & adresses are always taken in situations like that for the purposes of running checks on PULSE. You did nothing wrong, you weren't disrupting the peace as such so don't worry about it.

If the woman wants to press charges on the guy at least they have your details as a witness.

    Nothing to worry about :)

Well they'll probably ask you for a statement fairly soon.
If the guy does go to court then you'll probably be called as a witness. That would be in many months' time.
Keep receipts for travel etc related to this if you do any you can get any costs refunded if you are called as a witness.

If they arrested the other guy for public order I doubt very much that Gardaí will be looking for a statement off the OP or require him for court.

Just as a matter of interest would a public order offence cause problems with a US visa or immigration process...?

    Shouldn't think so.
