Does anyone know the difference between the Vitara and the Grand Vitara?
I've tried some searches, but I can't find anything definitive.

I would take it that the Vitara is the model up to 1998 and the Grand Vitara is the one from 1999 to 2006.

I would have thought that the Vitara was the three door and the Grand Vitara was the five door, but after looking at ads lately I am beginning to wonder.

I have seen the three door advertised as either Vitara or Grand Vitara, and likewise with the 5 door.

Just do a search of CBG, Carzone, Carsireland, etc, and you will see what I mean.

I think the current model is Grand Vitara for either 3 or 5 door, it's the previous one that was Vitara/Grand Vitara for 3 and 5 doors respectively.

Acording to http://www.suzuki.ie/index.php (horrid web design)
the current range includes a Grand Vitara 3 door or Grand Vitara 5 door.
So looks like both are 'grand'.

Ok then, if that's the case.........................what is the difference between a Vitara and a Grand Vitara?

    Can no-one answer this question?

The Vitara is the model up to 98, boxy looking yoke. The Grand Vitara name was given to every other model from 99 on, much nicer looking wagon. did'nt matter if either model was 3 or 5 door. The jap import model was known as the Escudo. The later long wheel base version was known as the Grand Vitara XL.
