Believe it or not it was 8 years ago yesterday, when Davey Boy Smith Died. Amazing worker, total powerhouse and by all accounts a great guy! However his demons and himself were his biggest fight! Thought id start this to get a bit of a discussion going, peoples opinions on the British Bulldog!?

I loved the British Bulldogs when I was a kid. There feud with the nefarious Hart Foundation had me rivetted.

One of the all time great matches, certainly for emotion, was his match with Bret at Summerslam 1992.

However, from that point on, I really was sort of meh towards his career. When he came back to WWF in 98/99 and they had him as a heel, it just totally did not work. It wasn't that I didn't like him, I just nothinged him, like zero opinion on him.

Still though, the good outweighs the bad. Hard to beleive he is dead that long.

by all accounts a great guy!

Would that were so. His ex-wife put out a book that, by Bret Hart's account, 'began with Davey drugging and sodomising her and went downhill from there'.

Thankfully, the more reliable witnesses describe him as a guy who, for all his issues, had an absolute heart of gold.

For me, the high point was Summerslam 1992. That was epic. Unfortunately, I got smart to the business soon after, couldn't see him on WCW anyway, and only got the last embers of his career.

the thing which always strikes me about smith was how big he got from his early years, he must have been eating those steriods :p

Was a big fan of the Bulldog when I started watching wrestling again around late 96. Really enjoyed watching himself and Owen as a tag team; i loved the family unit of the Hart Foundation of 97....

I never noticed how limited he was in the ring (until reviewing tapes at an older age) and was very happy to see him back circa 2000. It seemed like it was 'have an "Attitude" gimmick or get out', something was amiss seeing him with Stephanie and DX, wearing those jeans...

Was really happy when he won the IC title; thought he'd be an excellent hand to have around...by the size of him you knew he was whacking the steroids out of it; it's sad to hear about his pain/drug abuse. Poor lad.

He's still England's most famous wrestler. A sad end but he did have a fantastic career. Thought he was gonna get a run with the world title back in the New Generation Era (eliminated last in the RR by HBK) but it wasn't to be; they didn't hand out world titles like chiclets back in those days.

Can't say I agree with that at all. At best you could describe him as a guy who could be carried to something decent, but even thats being generous. he did some decent stuff in Stampede, but the huge muscle mass he put on made him a very cumbersome worker.
