I'm currently researching stoves for my new build and am trying to find a contemporary looking stove that:

    a)is an inset,
b)multifuel ie will burn wood and coal
c)has a backboiler for heating water and some rads.

the only stove that i've come across that matches the above criteria is the esse 350 gs with the stainless steel door.

has anyone any other suggestions that i could look into? my builder will be building my chimney soon and i want to decide and give him the correct dimensions for the insert.

Sorry bb12 but to my knowledge there isn't a contempory stove with a back boiler. Hopefully someone can contradict me.

Most European "Comtemporary Stoves" - Swedish, Danish, Dutch, Belgian, Czech etc are usually woodburning only.

The Esse 350gs is contemporary but its designed for retro-fit into an existing fireplace.

If you are designing a new home, there are numerous contempory cassestte type stoves that fit into pre-made chimney opes. Design your chimney to suit your stove.

Some stoves have air pipes that can be set up to transfer heat from the stove to a different room.

I'll pm some brands that you might like.

    thanks for that rkq.

the problem with the cassette stoves is that, while they look terrific, they mostly don't have back boilers or are wood burning only and i really want a multi fuel stove.

surely it's not a problem to install an esse 350gs into a new build, even if it's designed as a retro-fit?

Just installed a Stovax 8kw multi fuel cassette stove and the old open fireplace remodeled and rebuilt to suit. Also had a granite hearth flush fitted into the wooden floor, makes more space in the living room and stops me or anyone else tripping up over it too.:)
