Would I be entitled to a medical card?

Hi all,

I have been unemployed for nearly 3 months and am on the dole.

I have a chronic illness that requires regular trips to the G.P for check ups, blood tests etc. Before I could would spend over €200 a month on GP visits and prescriptions.

My GP said to check to see if I am eligible for a medical card. I have had a look online, but am finding the info a bit confusing. All the 'examples' I have seen are for married people with children or single people who work and have children.

I am currently renting with my partner.

He gaits paid about €360 a week. I get dole of €196. We pay 800 a month in rent.

Would anybody here know if I would be eligible for a medical card or even a GP visit card?

Your joint income is above the limit listed http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/health/entitlement-to-health-services/medical_card
but they take outgoings into account so you should apply. They will automatically consider you for the GP visit card if you don't meet criteria for medical card.

Also remember to apply for Drugs Replayment Scheme whereby you pay max of Euro 120 in any month.
