    Hi folks,

We're putting a potbelly stove into our conservatory rather than a fireplace. Just wondering what size opening should we be leaving? I want to advise the blocklayers.

Is there a standard size or anything?

Something I had to deal with recently. Depends on what stove you go for I gather.

Something I nearly got badly bitten on is that the one I'm interested in needs min. 300mm behind it to allow access for servicing and cleaning. I'll needs sufficient space either side of it also so that I can get in at that space.

If you have a stove selected then contact the manufacturer for installation instructions. The manuals I've seen all had suggested distance from walls etc. specified.

We haven't even looked at stoves yet so is there any type of standard sizes I could give?

Not that I am aware of.

Keep in mind that it's relatively easy to make a large opening smaller. Making a small one larger will be ALOT more difficult.
