Rifle Calibre Question:

    Just a quick one here, I'm not that long in the country (have duel citizenship between the US and Ireland) and at present have a .223.
    I would like however to get a larger calibre rifle sometime soon enough but my question is this....Can someone go out and buy a rifle of a calibre big enough to shoot deer, but just use it to shoot targets firstly and then when the finances are ok, go out get permissions etc etc for shooting deer or do you have to have the deer permissions straight away when purchasing the larger calibre rifle ?
    Any help would be great, thanks guys !!!!!

    Joining a target shooting club will be your best bet. It'll prove you have a worthy reason for having the rifle.

    As dazed+confused has said "Good Reason" for use is what will stop you getting any license.
    Tha main reason for Use on any large calibre is deer stalking, and you won't get the license without permissions.
    The other is target shooting and you will have to show current membership of a range to again then get the license .

    As you say you have the 223 but I would have thought you had to show/give Good Reason for getting that as well.
