Mentioned this a thread over on Bargain Alerts: Requests.

I bought an XMI XMini II off Amazon to push my order of an iPhone Development book over £25 to get free shipping.

    Buy it @ Amazon

Price in thread title is before VAT difference and P&P. And as always, it's best to spend over £25 to get free shipping.

It was only shipped today but these are meant to be the dogs balls.. check out Amazon reviews:

These do look great, shame I ordered something worth £30 off Amazon this morning, but noticed you can get them for £14.89 delivered from Sendit if you aint buying anything more for free delivery. Price on Amazon comes to £14.41 after VAT so maybe Sendit win this one!

I'm pretty sure they're always this price, Basq.

I had one of the Mk1 models and the output was, indeed, impressive. It stopped working on me after about 8 months but I'd still consider buying one again.

Have one of these. Can't recommend it enough.
The speaker is fantastic, great power with nice bass (for portable speaker) and excellent battery life.

Price must have went up slightly since I ordered it as I got it for £14.01 after VAT.

Quite possibly.. but they've a RRP of £19.99 so it's still significantly cheaper than that - but on par with competitors (Sendit etc.)

I got a pair of the XMI XMini II a while back and they are amazing, really loud, and its great that if you have a few of them you can chain them together to pump out more sound.

    Defo recommend!

I've got one..sound/volume wise. It's okay is about as far as I'd go, kinda gimmicky.

Plus even if you daisy chained two of them the output is still only mono. I think there's bigger stereo versions available.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,814 ✭✭✭TPD

If you don't mind a bit bigger a speaker, for ~€20 this is meant to be great:
    http://mp4nation.net/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9_45&products_id=221

I've ordered one and it should arrive today. Customs stopped it but sent it on when I told them it was €21.11 in total. It's had great reviews, and other Fiio products I've tried have been very high quality for the price. I'll edit this post when it arrives.

    How about

Presumably you will get stereo with two of them using a splitter ?

Don't forget to post how they are TPD please.

    Looking for a set myself.

It's on Ebay for nearly 50Sterling..

yes but not with that cable, thats a stereo splitter - ie 1 x stereo male to 2 x stereo female

you'd need stereo->left&right output splitter, maplins probably do them.

I bought one a couple of weeks ago and was slightly disappointed if I am honest. Expectation was high following all the reviews but it wasn't nearly as loud as I had hoped it would be. Louder than my laptop speakers for sure and defo a lot better quality of sound but...still a little underwhelming. Nice design though and very compact. Even a couple of these would be very easy to take around with you somewhere.
Chaining them together could be a solution but then the price starts escalating to the point whereby a more suitable unit could be purchased.
+ve is they can be recharged via usb so no loose batteries to worry about. cable from sound source locates itself neatly to base of the speaker. Again, lots of thought has gone into the design.
I could see all the family using it for occasional use with phones and mp3 players (and the laptop) - could be good for picnics, garden listening, even on the bike if you can fashion a mounting for it (actually, a couple of these hooked up in stereo would be pretty cool on a bike!)
If asked would I buy another one - then I would probably say not.

I'm seriously impressed with these speakers. Good weight to them, doesn't feel cheap atall. Easily fills a large room with sound, and the sound carried downstairs to the basement. Stereo sound too, but the speakers are so close together its as if stereo were combined into a single channel, unless you're right in front of it. There's a material cover protecting the speakers, should be grand at a beach.

I've been listening to progressive rock, hip-hop, industrial, folk, melodic and classical - everything sounds acceptable, brilliant for the size of it. You couldn't pocket this one like the last fiio I had, but the bump in quality is definitely worth bringing a bag.

I'd buy another in an instant if this were to disappear.

Cheers TPD, bought one of those...

Got mine today.. popped it on my JML GrabMat (essential bit of kit.. picked it up for €2 in Heatons) with my iPhone in the car on the way home from work. Absolutely superb sound out of it!

I'm very impressed with it.. small but nice and loud. And most crucially, it still sounds good when very loud (no pops or anything like that). Might be a replacement for my iTrip to be honest!

Mine arrived today and I've got to say it's absolutely brilliant.

Absolutely astonished by how loud and bassy such a little thing could be while hooked up to an old 1st Gen iPod 4gb nano.

On some really bassy dance music, the speaker provides so much bass it would actually bobble off the table if you had a long enough cable.

And as Basq says, even at full volume it sounds perfect!

If it was for a pair, good price, single, I'll pass.

Basquille, you forgot to twist and unlock the speaker to give it is proper sound. Twist it and it pops up like jack in the box and it gives a vacuum to give it great bass.

My local HMV (crescent s.c. Limerick) has a similar pod speaker for €13.99 at the moment

    Its this one here

Has anyone bought this and used it? Is it of the same quality or just a cheapo rip off? I need one of these for a work environment that is fairly noisy and puts a lot of speakers to the test... anything under 5watts seems to suffer.

tHanks I'll grab 1 or 2 from amazon

They were even cheaper during the autumn...price prob gone back up due to them making good stocking fillers. Really decent sound out of them when placed right.

I bought one of them recently from Amazon and it now wont take a charge. Only way to get it working is to power it through USB while using it. I must have fried the battery using a phone charger so beware!

Word of warning: the white one won't be delivered until January. This isn't obvious until after you've actually purchased it, so I had to then cancel the order and reorder in a different colour. Black ones will be delivered before Christmas, as will purple ones (although they're a bit pricier).
