Sad day for Dublin Gaa with Jayo leaving the building..He can be very proud for what has acheived with Dublin he truely was and always will be a great ambassador for Dublin Gaa..For a player who won an All Ireland back in 95 and who had to fight for his place under many new managements he always fought is way in to the championship team..Giller seems to be hell bent on ending legends careers ..........Anyway Jayo thanks for everything a true king of the hill.. icon_sad.gif

Good luck, Jayo... Thanks for the memories... I was there in Croker on that heady September day in '95 when Sam was lifted... Thanks for the memories, King Of The Hill!!!

Another Dublin legend treated shamefully by our manager.Horrible to think his last action as a Dublin player was being called ashore 20 mins into the Kerry game.Jayo can hold his head high here.

Best of luck and thanks for all the memories!

I actually thought Sherlock was playing better the last couple of seasons since his first year in Senior Football. He was substituted against Kerry after 20 odd minutes despite the fact that the ball was hardly in his half of the field.

in fairness i think jayo's best days were behind him anyway.

A bit of an exaggeration to say that he has been 'treated shamefully'. I think Gilroy is looking to move on and build a new team with younger players. Jayo has given great service to the dubs but no player can go on forever. And to be honest, I would have thought that maybe he had one more season in him, but maybe he's not been playing well enough, I don't know.

In my opinion it's a sign of massive progress and not a sad day at all for Dublin Gaa.

I think it would have been an injustice to include him in the squad after the hard work from all in the league.

    Onwards and upwards.

The last of the all Ireland winners to retire. None of the Dublin panel have a senior intercounty AI. Its extremely hard to win one. Could take years to win another. The tradition of winning and having winners in the panel makes it easier to win more. Just look at Tyrone, Kerry and Kilkenny.

Jayo was one of the reasons I started playing the game. I was 9 at the time. Have loved the game since.

Sherlock was a very good soccer player as well. Still the third highest scorer for UCD.

Jayo gave great service to Dublin, but it is time to go. The 95 legacy is now gone from Dublin GAA and it's time to make new memories. Gilroy is dead right to bring in lots of new blood and try to change the psyche in the dressing room, which the older lads still carry.

Yeah I think it probably has a lot to do with the training though which is intense from all accounts.
Asking a lot of players to train especially the older players if they are not going to be given a full run in the championship.
Might have been the reason why some of them stepped down. I think Whelan could have done a Stephen O'Neill here and made himself avaiable for the later rounds of the championship.
Still both him and Jayo have been around a long time.
    Time to move on.

A good player, but not a great player.

between one third and half of his games were as a sub. he suffered disfavour under Whealan and Lyons so he never got as much game time as he should have, and considering he had such a great football brain it is criminal the way he was deployed at times. Constantly firing balls way over his reach match after match was not good, IMO the only one who got anything consistantly out of him was Piller because he knew how to utilise him. He will be missed.

I had a go at him last year.

His profile is not matched by ability.

Over rated and was not a starter for years.

It's good that Dublin are finally moving on and trying to build a team.

Too right about Whelan for sure but that could also be applied to a lot of other players like Keith Barr,Brian Stynes and pretty much a large contingent of the 95 AI winning team.Dublin could have won more All Irelands if Whelan didn't dismantle that team from 95-96.

Have to agree about being properly utilised by Pillar except for Tyronegate in 08.Hos goal against Kildare last year was just pure class.Hard to see another player apart from Bernard score THOSE types of goals where you just catch it and bang it in the goal.

I can see where Gilroy is coming from most definitely but I still feel some of the younger players coming through like Hubbard,Blaine Kelly,McAulay could learn a lot playing alongside experienced players like Jayo and Cullen.

Thats depending where Gilroy plays them. McAuley I think will play in a free role while Kelly maybe out for awhile after picking up a shoulder injury against Maurs.
