Buying 2nd hand Hyandai Getz

I'm planning on buying my first car a getz from a private seller.

Its a '04 model, 22,000 miles & costs €3,000. He says he doesn't have a full service history. Is that normal or should I be suspicious?

I'll be doing a motorcheck/mywheels check. Is either one better?

How does getting it checked by a mechanic work? This is my first time dealing with cars so I wouldn't know where to start!

Buy on condirion rather than mileage. Check will only tell you the mileage from the nct in 08.
Car is probably due a timing belt regardless of mileage. Budget for this.
Make sure clutch is ok and that it needs no work.

A 04 car should be due it's second NCT this year. If it is the same one that is on carzone then I noticed that the NCT is due next month. I would be asking why the seller hasn't put it through the NCT already given that they are trying to sell the car. Having a fresh 2 year NCT would only enhance the car's prospect of selling. Selling a car with a soon to be expired NCT would suggest to me that the seller is not confident that it will pass and/or knows that it needs a bit of work done to it to pass.

Given the choice of cars out there for sale which have lengthy NCTs I would not even entertain the idea of buying one with the NCT about to expire, too much risk of being stung for my liking.

You'd get a lot more for 3 grand imo, I was given one as an insurance replacement car for a week and it was horrible.

Just be on the ball ,its a lot of hard earned money to hand over :rolleyes:.think you will get a lot more for your money,if your heart is set on it at least bring someone that knows a bit about cars with you , just my 2c worth;)

Hmm. Think I have gone off the getz again. I've spent the last 2 months changing my mind -at this rate ill never buy a car!

What would people suggest. I have ~€3,000 need a hatch with 5 doors open to anything really,.
