im looking into getting either a benq w600, or a optoma hd700x, both are 720p projectors

the room that i will be using them is a bit difficult though

could anyone with some knowhow be able to answer some questions re: placement of the projector

does the projector have to be placed dead centre of the screen which it is projecting onto?

does it matter if its ceiling mounted or placed on the ground or on a coffee table?

are you able to angle the lens up or down so that it dosent have to be dead centre of the screen?

    cheers ;)

A projector lens us usually in line with or a little below the bottom of the screen - when set up for ceiling mounting there is a setting in the menus which flips the image upside down so that the prjector is upside down but the image stays the same way up.

There are two main types of projector, DLP and LCD. Nearly all DLP's are very inflexible on placement. They have to be directly in front of the middle of the screen either on the ceiling/floor/table etc. You can raise or lower them to get the height right but that can cause either the top or bottom to be wider. Both the projectors you mention are DLP.

Most LCD's on the other hand have a lot of lens flexibility; i.e. you can move the lens up and down and left/right, so you can have the projector off to the side a bit and still get the picture in the middle of the screen. I'm not up to date on whats out there, the Panasonic PT-AX200 is one that springs to mind. You might consider buying second hand from AVForums, Adverts.ie or E-bay as a lot of people are upgrading to 1080p

Some people also suffer from the rainbow effect with DLP, so you either need to demo before purchase or take the gamble.
