Is any one else experiencing difficulties with their sickness benefit payments?
I keep on being sent from pillar to post, my medical certificates get lost and every time I ring them up i get a different reason. I'm now owed 3 weeks and am really broke. Last week I was told to send in a monthly certificate and to take it to my local office. I travelled 20 miles to do this and got 1 week payed (20 April to 26 April). The people in the local office assured me that this week and next week were covered. I phoned Dublin today and was told that a monthly certificate was no good so no payment this week and also no further arrears. How do I tackle them? I seem to get nowhere and neither do other people who have tried for me. I'm now in rent arrears, the phone will get cut off and no proper food, just dry goods in the cupboard.

Go to your local councilor/td and see if they can help.

Or contact Eamon O'Cuiv or the Ombudsman and see if either of them can help.

Also, have you gone to your local CWO (community welfare office) afaik, they can give you a payment/loan to tide you over. I don't know how much (if anything) they will give you.

Good luck - hopefully everything for you will be sorted out soon.

The problem is, that the CWO can't help if no payment is due in the system. They keep on losing my certificates, then blaming the post. 1st time they told me I must have used a 'dud' postbox, it was handed in in the postoffice. The 2nd time they said that post can take up to 7 days to arrive, but it never 'arrived'.
Neither the CWO nor the local office can make any headway with them and I've heard of other people having similar problems. I also can't get a name of the person I'm talking to on the phone.
I feel that if there is no record of phonecalls, nothing can be achieved. I was quite angry today when the girl on the phone implied that I wasn't sick enough because my certificate states hypertension as the reason. I'm being investigated for a possible tumour and I'm spending 2 days a week at the hospital undergoing tests.I've never had time off before and always worked and payed my stamp. She as a clerk has no right to make medical judgement. I'm quite willing to see a doctor to be assessed.

i will definitely follow up your suggestions

At this stage you should ask to see the manager at the SW office. It's an extra cost but well worth it to keep copies of medical certs and send everything to SW by registered post or, if handing stuff in, to get name of person to whom you give it and note the time and date. You have to eat and keep your home running and the St Vincent de Paul would help.
