That document is about entry to the country.

Nothing to do with a driving license or learners permit.

@donegalfella . Today i went to the embassy and they told me that the only available date is on the 23rd of August. So in august i`ll apply for a new passport, and it takes another 4-5 months till i`ll get it.Yes i have a cert birth, but im not sure it is accepted as im not an irish citizen and the cert is also from my country aswell as my ID.

    @Faith+1 . Yes i mean EU member .

    Im from Romania.
@jhegarty Yes that document is about entry to the country, but as long as they accepted me to travel in Ireland using that ID they also should accept it at Motor Tax.When i travel, i use that ID instead of using a passport and everything was ok.

You can provide a birth cert rather then passport. EU ID cards can be used to enter any other EU country as you just need to prove you are an EU citizen as it's an agreement between all EU members but I'm not sure that means they can be accepted in place of a passport in other situations. Ireland currently does not issue identity cards so it may be a case for things relating to Irish law [such as driving tests] you can't use an EU ID card.

Can you not get a copy of your birth cert?

Try again on a different day at a different counter (i.e not the same person at the last time)

If they still refuse, ask to speak to the supervisor and show them document in your picture.

If your ID card is valid, they have to accept it.

@ztoical . I have my original cert birth with me...but i thought its not good.
@peasant. I`ll try again tomorrow but the problem is that there is a ticket system..If i get a ticket and i have to go to the same person.. tuff luck :)

The RSA's website states they accept an original birth certificate or a passport...did you try to use your birth cert? If not go in with it and if say no ask for them to explain why as they're own website says one or the other not both or only passport.

Take two tickets, just make sure they're not consecutive.;)

Did you ask them to explain why? I can understand sort of why they won't take the ID card as Ireland doesn't issue them so it's a bit of a gray area but they should take your birth cert with your ID or passport even if it's out of date as photo id with it...did they give you any reason why they wouldn't accept your birth cert?

I take it your ID card looks like this?

If so, if I were you, I'd create one hell of a stink and not move from that office until they gave me what I wanted ...it's a legal EU document ffs.

@peasant Yes thats exactly how my id looks like .They said that they dont accept it because they had some problems with other people using that id.Finally i went again(third time) to the same person and he accepted my passport even it has 3 years since expired.

Some people, when you put them into a position of (perceived) "authority" just are like that ...especially when foreigners are involved.
I've met a few of those myself.
