As the investigation into this matter begins to mount, today new evidence obtained from the video and transcript has been revealed.Apparently some of the translation has been wrong and also some of Higgins's replies have been dubbed by a different voice.
This is very welcoming news indeed as i'm sure all you snooker fans like me were stunned when this story broke over two weeks ago.
If ever there was only one honest man in snooker it would be John Higgins, i just hope the continuing investigation gets to the bottom of this and quickly.
As for the second part of the story regarding Higgins having a bet on himself, well when was that illegal? plenty of sportspeople do this.
This was just another ploy by the paper to try and bury Higgins.
I just hope when and not if John Higgins is cleared that he sues that rag of a paper and takes them for millions.

That is good news. He never denied any of the "dubbed" comments afterwards though did he? And why would his manager have retired if this was the case? Dont get me wrong, Im with you on this one, I just would have expected to here more of a protest if the whole episode was manipulated...

If he is proven innocent here, I sincerely hope he bankrupts that rag.

Let's hope he's innocent. I'd trust Higgins over that paper any day of the week, but it's hard to say either way on just the video that we have.

Yes, the NOTW sensationalised the betting on himself story in their follow up to the main event. And I think most of us can understand how and why a player would place a bet like that to try and cover his winnings in case of a collapse. But the ordinary person on the street who wouldnt be up to date with betting and protecting ones bets woukldnt have a clue about this and would just read that article and think JH wanted to back himself to lose as if he was thinking of throwing the final.
But at the end of the day, it is against WPBSA's diciplinary rules to place a bet on a match in which the player himself is involved in, and as the worlds' number 1, he should know better than that.
The one good thing here though is that an independant body from outside the world of snooker are going to be the final arbitrars of this case, so nobody can clain it will be swept under the carpet.

Ah c'mon zack01. Have you read the "new evidence". It's extremely lightweight and almost pedantic. Bottom line is that none of the "new evidence" affects the crux of this matter which is the fact that Higgins was willing to throw four frames for reward from these shady Ukrainians.

Here's an example of the new evidence:

NOTW Reporter: “So you narrowly miss a ball go to pocket and that’s it.
    JH: “Yeah, simple as that”.

The bloke who has studied the video says that this is not what was said.
    Instead it should read:

NOTW Reporter: “So you narrowly miss a ball go to pocket and that’s it.
    JH: “Yeah.

Wow! Stop Press! Higgins didn't say "simple as that" after he said "yeah"! To be honest this is pretty much a non-story. The bloke who is picking apart this video has found a few inaccuracies, none of which affect the crux of this story. It looks like it's an attempt by one of Higgins buddies to try and spin a bit of positive PR for him out of thsi story. Poor attempt in fairness.

Im inclined to agree with Pighead on this one. I dont think the NOTW are that stupid to blatantly fabricate a false story here. They know what they can/cant do even though the line is blurred, I just dont think they would get away with this one. Higgins' statement more or less confirmed what the video showed, his only argument was that is was fear motivated....he didnt dispute the audio one bit...

Yeah methinks denial is more than just a river in Egypt OP. Considering the fact he never disputed the audio/his manager resigned from the WPBSA when the story broke, it's fairly open and shut.

That's the main problem I have with it. Why come out with that nonsence about the Russian Mafia.
