In an episode directed by Emmy Award winner Joss Whedon, Mr. Schuester’s former high school nemesis, Bryan Ryan (Neil Patrick Harris)causes trouble for the glee club. Meanwhile, Rachel struggles with a life-long personal issue, and Artie’s dreams take him on an adventure.

Yeah I thought there was something that made this episode a lot better than usual. Wheadon made a big difference IMO.

Really enjoyed that one. Couild do with less of Tina and Arty but I wouldn't leave that drag it down.

Good call on having Idina Menzel as Rachel's mother. There's even a decent likeness there! I certainly didn't see that one coming. I thikn everyone thought Jessie was a mole with the eventual intention of sabotaging the club. That's been turned on its head with a good twist.

The duet of 'I dreamed a dream' is probably my favourite number I've heard in Glee. I'd happpily see renditions of classics like this every week (if done this well) but I understand that the teeny market demands pop.

Wasn't mad gone on Neil Patrick Harris but certainly not the worst thing in the world.

Thoroughly enjoyed the episode and would rate it as one of the best yet.

    Loved it!

Thought Neil Patrick Harris was very funny. The face on him breaking into Piano Man :P Love how Sue stirred it up there at the end, knew there wasn't a chance she'd let half her budget being cut go unpunished even if she did get some angry sex in her secret room "like Letterman" :P

I really enjoyed the Artie/Tina storyline. It was nice to see some realism in the Artie character instead of someone who is 100% happy all the time. The dancing was great and I loved his solo at the end.

"I dreamed a dream" was incredible. Idina definitely put Lea in the shade there. Her voice is so effortless whereas Lea can take on a slightly screechy quality when she gets really into it (or maybe thats just me).

No Brittney this week but thankfully no Finn either :P

    Highlights:

    I dreamed a dream
    Artie's dancing
    The support group.

    Favourite quotes:

    Bryan: Show choir kills

Bryan: Three times a year, I tell my wife I'm going on a business trip and I sneak off to New York to see Broadway shows. I have a box of playbills hidden away in my basement, Will. Like porn.

Russell: My name is Russell, and I'm a Glee club survivor. Whenever anything bad would happen, I would just say 'Let's put on a show.' Well, guess what? Puttin on a show about your father's prostate cancer will actually just make him more depressed about the situation.

Oh also, did anyone else notice when Will showed Bryan the picture of the Glee Club in the yearbook one of the names underneath was "Nathan Puckerman"? :P

Really good episode, NP Harris is brilliant as usual along with sue
Really liked arties version of safety dance though i dreamed a dream stole the show

I though they said that idina wasnt going to play her mother, or maybe they just didnt want us to think that as they look freakishly alike

I think it's going to take me a few hours to come down from the amazingness of 'I Dreamed a Dream.' I heard a bit of it on the radio earlier, so I knew it was coming, but even still. It totally blew me away.

That combined with Artie's dance, Neil Patrick Harris and Joss Whedon made this one of my favourite episodes. I didnt even notice that Sue hadnt been in it until she appeared about half way through. I hadnt missed her at all, which is saying something since her lines are usually my favourite thing in the show.

I knew it, I knew it, I knew it - they couldn't ignore the likeness!

Was that Lea Michele's real mother in tonight's show??

Looked very like her alright but it wasn't :P

How weird is it that they managed to find someone that looks scarily like her yet isn't related to her?? Weird.

I nearly cried when Neil Patrick Harris and Will sang Dream On, one of my favourite songs of all time! It was a brilliant episode. It was great to see some of the other characters developing and of course, Rachel and her mother!!! Artie's dancing was also fantastic. He's so talented, its great to see it being showcased.

    Ya,me too,thought it was terrible.

Bar that,I thought the episode was pretty good, especially compared to the stuff that preceded it.Suppose it'll be a return to the poor quality episodes without Whedon.

Best Glee episode in a long time.
The coach of Vocal Adrenaline was actually not supposed to be Rachel's mother but due to the similarity, fans requested that they make the 2 characters mother/daughter, so they agreed obviously.

I actually was really nervous when Artie started dancing, I remember thinking to myself "if this is not a dream and they say he's magically cured then this show has definitely jumped the shark."
I really didn't enjoy the scene for that reason, but when it ended up being a daydream, I watched it again to enjoy it - quite a good dance number lol.

Agreed on that song being awful. And it is a bit horrible to be teased by how good the show could be with someone like Wheadon at the helm, only for it to fall back to its normal level without him. :(

That's exactly what I was thinking. I was watching it thinking "If this wasn't Gleee, I'd be sure this was a dream sequence and would enjoy it as that. But with it being Glee it's entirely possible that this is real and, if so, jumping the shark doesn't even come close to describing what's currently happening." Thankfully, it was a dream but it still annoyed me.

I loved this episode, I got given out to cause when artie fell on the floor I started laughing,

I absolutly love Neil Patrick Harris, I think he should join the cast but not until HIMYM ends. He could replace Mr Schu.

Missed Brittiny this week and Finn, i'm finally starting to like him. Hope Jesse leaves soon his storyline is sooooooo boring. I thought Piano man was the best song.

I thought Piano man was the best song.

I know everyone's entitled to their opinion and everything but just no! :D

Found it very shouty from Neil Patrick Harris and even if it was top class it just can't even begin to compare to 'I Dreamed a Dream'.

    I agree completely
I thought Piano man was the best song.

Thats ridiculous, Dreamed a dream was the best song by far.

    Where is Terri?

I kinda thought when Bryan Ryan mentioned her she might be on screen.

Wait a sec, Rachel says she was born in December 1994, that makes her fifteen and a half. Really? Lea Michele is like, 24 or something. Are we supposed to buy this? I reckon they've make her this age because they're anticipating three more seasons.

Loved this episode!! It was like an episode before they took the break:) They didn't go overboard with songs and just put them in to complement the storyline, unlike having the storyline complement the songs like they have doing quite a lot lately. I usually don't like Artie but I really felt or him in this episode especially in the scene with Emma. I Dreamed a Dream gave me goosebumps it was simply breathtaking:eek: I had heard the many rumours that Idina would be playing Rachels mom but when Jesse snuck the tape in they threw me off and I thought they were just playing Rachel. Heres hoping they use Idina a LOT more! Gaga next week:D

This is not a new thing in US TV to be honest..

.. prime example is the actors in 'Dawson's Creek' were in their early 20's playing 15 year olds.

I think the worst was the original 90210, the woman playing Andrea was a few months off 30 when the series started.

I really liked it, especially Sue's monologue about physical exercise. Nice way to get a point across to a nation of couch potatoes. I didn't really like the Artie dance though - not for its theatricality (and it was a nice nod to the Glee flash mobs in how it was filmed), but I felt it exploited his character. And as for Tina, well they give her lots to do in an episode and I still ain't bovvered. If anyone is ripe for the chop, it's her. Brittany and Santana are so much more interesting.

Bryan Ryan's analogy about the show ticket stubs being stashed away like porn cracked me up. Idina Menzel's vocals were amazing, but anyone who has the Wicked OST will already know what she's capable of. I too expected Terri to appear when she got name checked, but alas no. Disappointed that there were no veiled references to vampires, space pirates or human dolls!

Great to catch a glimpse of John Michael Higgins in Bryan Ryan's "Glee Club Survivors" (Glee-hab?) - anyone remember him with Jane Lynch in "A Mighty Wind"?

I reckon they made her this age because its set in a high school, tbh.

Try finding a cast of 15 year olds with that amount of talent. I doubt you could. It takes a certain amount of maturity and experience to pull off those roles. Personally, them being older in real life has never impacted on my viewing experience.

Wow, I know they don't look 15, but Finn, Puck and Mike do not look 28!

Thought it was the best episode so far - probably because it was directed by Joss Whedon, had Neil Patrick Harris as a guest star and featured a cover of an Aerosmith song... Good stuff...

I had imagined the majority of the cast were around my age (23), so I wasn't too far off... It has never bothered me though when watching the show that they're much older than the characters they are playing - it doesn't make the show any less enjoyable...

    Lady Gaga??

Yeah it was defintely the best ep in a while. I was rewatching ep 1 and 2 last night and of late the episodes really seem to have lost the amazing comic factor- I say bring back Terri and have more figgins and Quinn- they are all brilliant in the first couple of episodes
