    Hi Guys,

I heard today this boat wasn't running due to low water levels. Does anyone know of anyone who has been on it in the past week or so and if its running or not?

Hoping to go on it in 2/3 days so any help greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

Cant answer but I hope it does go for ya. Amazing journey. Get your cans before boarding. There twice the price on the boat. Enjoy.

Just to let anyone who is interested know the slow boat is running and I took it from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang last week. Great experience and the Meeking is great so I would advise it if anyone is doing this route.

That's good news from the slow boat. And where are these places, Huay Xai and Luang Prabang? They spell just so different and difficult. How's the place?

Huay Xai is in the North of Laos on the border with Thailand. Luang Prabang is in the middle of Laos and this is where the slow boat stops.

Google Laos and go to images and not google maps and it'll show you there

    hi there,
I definitely want to take this boat at some stage of my trip in SE Asia but i was wondering, does the trip described here make one miss out on a lot of stuff in between Huay Xai and luang prabang, or is there not much to see in that area?

Not sure what there is to see. There is one stop in a place called Pakbang.....pretty sh**ty town to be honest and when you get off the boat there is a welcoming comittee of the local folk basically dragging you into their guesthouses. Mind you they are dirt cheap....30,000kip for a double room about €3 a night!

A bit of advice when you walk up th hill the first guest house on the right has an amazing view of the Meekong from its balcony. Get there book in and then have a few beers on the balcony....class
